Spring is the time of year when exercise starts to sound a little more motivating again. Warmer temperatures and more daylight might make it easier to be active outdoors, but where do we even begin? Grab the whole family and check out 10 of our favorite ways to get moving this season.

  •  Take a Walk

After a long winter, fresh air and sunshine feel so good! Walking is a great form of exercise and can even help with stress management. Try hiking a trail in a local park. Or get the entire family involved and go for a short walk after dinner.

  •  Plant a Garden

Planting a garden can be a relaxing and rewarding activity. Whether you’re planting colorful flowers or delicious fruits and veggies, you’re sure to add a pop of color to Spring. Tending and watering the garden throughout the season is a great way to encourage long-term activity.

  •  Play Basketball

Everyone loves basketball in March! Join in on the madness by playing your own game of H-O-R-S-E or 3 on 3 at the park.

  • Grab a Paddle

The lakes and rivers might not be warm enough for a swim yet, but there are plenty of other ways to enjoy time on the water this Spring. Consider an afternoon of canoeing, kayaking, or paddle-boarding for some adventurous exercise.

  •  Explore an Outdoor Art Exhibit

Looking for something different to do outside? Learn about art and history while increasing your activity for the day by exploring a local outdoor art exhibit. Get your steps in on rainy days by visiting a nearby museum.

  •  Visit a Zoo

A zoo can be a wonderful place to explore at any age. Many baby animals are born in the Spring making this season an even more inspiring time for a visit. With all the excitement of animals coming out to play, you’ll hardly realize you’re exercising too!

  •  Go on a Bike Ride

Pump up your tires and put on a helmet. This is the perfect time of year to go for a bike ride. Find a local bike trail and look at all the flowers starting to bloom as you ride by.

  •  Spring Clean Your Outdoor Spaces

Spring cleaning isn’t just for the indoors. Think about how yard work, gardening, and cleaning out the garage can be great ways to get in some productive activity. Choose one small thing to Spring clean each week. Then, before you know it, you’ll be ready for Summertime!

  •  Play Catch at the Park

Root, root, root for the home team, and get the family together for some catch at the park. Or consider organizing a game of backyard baseball. These are fun ways to get the family interested in exercising together.

  •  Stop by a Local Farmer’s Market

Produce stands and farmer’s markets will be popping up this time of year. Support local farmers and businesses while increasing your outdoor activity. Bonus points for getting fresh fruits and veggies to try in a new recipe!

This season can be so motivating for adding movement into your day. Start out slow and gradually increase your exercise. Try new and creative ways for the whole family to embrace activity this Spring.

Always consult with your physician before starting a new exercise program.
