The American Institute of Health Care Professionals1 defines it as “an approach to health that considers the whole person, addressing physical, mental, emotional, social, and spiritual components of well-being.” Holistic approaches emphasize the integration of these areas, suggesting that they should be considered together when treating and maintaining health. It is not an alternative to traditional medicine that uses only natural remedies.
